PM Modi leads ‘Swachhata hi Seva’ campaign on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti » Bhajpa Ki Baat
The ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign, which kicked off on 15 September, 2023 reached its culmination on the eve of father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary on 01 October, 2023. This nationwide initiative was led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and garnered widespread participation from citizens across the country. The campaign was not just a standalone effort but a precursor to the grand celebration of ‘Swachh Bharat Diwas’ or ‘Swachhta Diwas,’ observed on 02 October each year.

The ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign witnessed participation from people from all walks of life. Various ministries, government departments, and social organizations actively contributed to the campaign. It was a moment of unity, where politicians, students, government officials, and ordinary citizens came together to work towards a cleaner India. Noteworthy, in a recent episode of his monthly radio broadcast ‘Mann ki Baat’, the Prime Minister had appealed for “one hour of Shramdaan for Swachhata” on October 1 by all citizens, saying it would be a “Swachhanjali” to Mahatma Gandhi on the eve of his birth anniversary.

Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah said, “Modi ji has made many problems of the society a mass movement, in which cleanliness ranks the first. By infusing ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ with the power of public participation, Modi ji has implemented Gandhi ji’s mantra of ‘cleanliness is service’. With his inspiration, every Indian is making an important contribution in the development of the country by making cleanliness an integral part of the lifestyle,” he wrote on X.
Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh participated in “shramdaan” activities, including a cleanliness drive, beautification of the common area and a plantation drive, at the premises of the Controller General of Defence Accounts in Delhi Cantonment.
In a post on X, the Defence Ministry Shri Singh said that “in recent years, awareness towards cleanliness has increased throughout the country and become a mass movement”.

BJP National President Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda on 01 October, 2023 participated in the cleanliness campaign under ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ Abhiyan at Seva Basti, Jhandewalan in New Delhi. In this program, along with him, Union Minister Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi, BJP Delhi State President Shri Virendra Sachdeva, BJP national Media In-charge Shri Anil Baluni and hundreds of Karyakartas swept the Seva Basti and picked up garbage. After collecting the garbage, they put it in the garbage van.
During this occasion, the BJP National President also talked to the sanitation workers of Delhi Municipal Corporation and expressed his gratitude to them. He said by working tirelessly the sanitation workers make an important contribution in keeping Delhi clean. Shri Nadda also offered prayers at the temple in Jhandewalan.
After participating in the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ Abhiyan, the BJP National President also interacted with the people regarding cleanliness. He said that Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi had dreamed of cleanliness and Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has made it a reality. He said we will take this cleanliness campaign forward more strongly.
The BJP National President said Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had called for a cleanliness campaign from the ramparts of the Red Fort. On that call, crores of citizens of the country are contributing in the cleanliness campaign. He said lakhs of BJP Karyakartas are also making their respective areas clean by doing Shramdaan across the country.
He said BJP Karyakartas are making the cleanliness campaign a mass movement and also simultaneously running a public awareness campaign in the country. The public awareness campaigns are intended to inculcate the values of cleanliness in people’s day to day life.
This program is not for one day, nor for one week. The cleanliness program is a life-long mass movement. Every person should participate enthusiastically in this mass movement, he added.
The BJP National President also called upon the people of the entire nation to give cleanliness an important place in their life.
